Toy accessories UAE parents should keep at home

Many toys arrive without batteries, and a flat cell can stop play on a birthday or Eid morning. Keeping a few spare packs at home saves a last-minute shop run.

Find the right battery size

• AA and AAA: the most common sizes for remote control cars, remotes, robots and light-up toys.
• C and D: larger cells used in some bigger toys and devices.
• 9V: a rectangular battery used in some electronics.
• LR44 / AG13 button cells: small round batteries for compact toys and gadgets.

The toy's battery cover or product description usually lists the size and number needed. Remember that remote controls often need their own set.

Single-use or rechargeable

Single-use alkaline packs are handy for occasional toys. For toys used every day, such as RC cars, rechargeable AA batteries like Panasonic Eneloop come pre-charged and can be recharged many times. The Eneloop pack holds four batteries only, so you will need a compatible charger.

Buying in bulk

Kodak 20-battery packs suit families with several battery toys. As the range grows, this category will also hold other toy accessories such as storage and spare parts.

Brands here include Duracell, Panasonic, Kodak and Sony.
